Chen Xiaowang was born in 1946 in Chenjiagou (the Chen Village), Henan Province, China, as the son of Chen Xhaoxu, eldest son of the famous Taiji master Chen Fake.

Chen Xiaowang began studying at the age of 8. His teachers included his grandfather Chen Fake, his father Chen Zhaoxu, and his uncles Chen Zhaokui and Chen Zhaopi. He was inspired to master and carry on the family art. Because of his dedication, he soon stood out among his generation of the Chen family. In 1980, 82 and 83 he competed and won the title of All China Grand Champion, and was also crowned Grand Champion at the first Open International Tournament in Xian in 1985.

Grandmaster Chen created two forms (19 Lu, 38 Lu) that are shorter than the traditional forms and are suitable for students being introduced to Chen Taijiquan.

Chen Xiaowang is the 19th generation Grandmaster of Chen Shi Taijiquan and the standard bearer of the Chen Family heritage. Through his gentle approach to teaching and dedication he symbolizes the true nature and philosophy of the Chen family tradition.

Other notable persons of the 19th generation are: Chen Zheng Lei, Wang Xi An, Zhu Tian Cai or Chen Xiaoxing. Notable figures are of the 20th generation are for example Chen Bing, Chen Jun, Chen Ying Jun,  Chen Pengfei, Ren Guan Yi, Chen Shi Hong, or Jan Silberstorff.
